About
The Congressional Public Shipyard Caucus is an official U.S. House of Representatives bipartisan congressional member organization. The Caucus was established during the 118th Congress to pursue the following objectives:
- Serve as a resource in educating Members and staff on the importance of public shipyards and the issues they face.
- Facilitate cooperation on issues of shared interest between the public shipyard industry and the United States government.
- Advance policies that support U.S. engagement in the naval industrial base.
History
Originally founded by Representatives Rob Wittman and Derek Kilmer, the Public Shipyards Caucus is a group of Members of Congress focused exclusively on the nation’s public shipyards and serves as a venue to discuss public shipyard issues, increase stakeholder support for public shipyards, and raise awareness of their importance to Congress. The Caucus was founded to support the nation’s four public shipyards – Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility in Washington, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility in Hawai‘i.
